Pogona - Magus Eater

Description

Sorry about this one being a .png. It didn't want to save as a JPG for reasons. Enjoy my bad digital touch-ups in all their pixellated glory. :P

I sometimes draw things besides biological superweapons. Magus-Eater (hyphen on that thing or not, by the way?) comes darn close. As its name implies, it is a behemoth subspecies that specializes in eating mages, which usually do pretty well against temperate and desert behemoths. The best element to use against Magus-Eater is still ice/water, but, well, this one's a little special.

Although ice magic is still a threat, Magus-Eater has more magical defense than the average behemoth. It is also a fair bit smarter, striking a mage as soon as they try to illuminate its den. Furthermore, the usual "Noble Roar" tactic (which triggers a fear response based on a difference in power) found in behemoths has been tweaked into a roar that reduces magical power to zero ("Primal Roar"). Behemoths, being behemoths, can tank virtually any physical hit with ease, so this is really a no-win situation.

Furthermore, if Magus-Eater is hit with energy, the stones on its body glow brighter and brighter. If they absorb enough, Magus-Eater gains yet another fearsome skill: the ability to manipulate gravity. When fully-charged, or at least charged enough to use the skill, every one of the crystals on the Eater's skin glow bright red, as do the surrounding rocks.  This rare talent usually nets it an easy meal or two. Because of both the implied magnetism and the ability to change color, the crystals are likely a type of alexandrite unique to the beast.

Speaking of easy meals, Magus-Eater has lived for so long that poisoned meat is no longer an effective tactic. All but the most deadly poisons will fade away with time, but Magus-Eater avoids randomly tossed meat as a rule, anyways. Unless it's really hungry, no dice on that bait. It would much rather devour all your casters.

Oh, and it has most of the skills of a normal behemoth: Noble Roar, control over Fire and Earth, the ability to exhale molten rock (which hardens into obsidian upon cooling), a lot of HP and defense, and both ends are equally nasty to fight. On the plus side, it's smaller than the standard adult size for a behemoth, so there's that.

Magus-Eater is one of the few legendary monsters that there is sufficient proof for. Many very strong parties have entered her blue-lit cavern, only to either be wiped out entirely or have only one member escape.

Pogona continent and all of its creatures are mine. Entirely. This thing will hunt you in your sleep if you dare try to steal it.
