Description

I promise I'll post a certain tail reference sheet today. This, however, I need to post before I forget about it again. I want to get roughly an entire sketchbook scanned, largely so that I can then stash it away and put it in a place where it won't get so easily lost.

Sometime last year (or...very early this year? I'll have to ask, but I remember it was cold), I did this while listening to a random lecture at dad's workplace. I've always loved the designs of Seiyaryu ("Holy Knight Dragon" - it's the same "seiya" as in "Saint Seiya") and Serpent Night ("Evil Knight") Dragon. They were among the first cards to have a story associated with them that wasn't part of the main canon.

Yes. Between the video games, the vanilla card lore, and certain other hints, Holy Knight Dragon and Evil Knight Dragon have a story. It probably starts with a third card, Dragoness the Wicked Knight - a bizarre, crappy, vanilla Fusion Monster released all the way back in Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon (for most of the world). If you click around, there are tidbits about her using dragon equipment to gain power (early Monster Hunter inspiration?), but the most compelling evidence for her being part of this story is that she's a "wicked knight" at all.

Something happened - probably a ritual that was intended to grant Dragoness more power. Evil Knight Dragon has several nudges that it was intended to be a Ritual Monster, including a Forbidden Memories card that uses Dragoness the Wicked Knight as a material. It sure looks like the soul used in EKD's creation was Dragoness's. Does that mean all EKD's are female by default?

We don't know how Holy Knight/Seiyaryu came about. There's no other connection as far as I can tell, but it's pretty obviously a parallel with Evil Knight Dragon in some way, shape or form. It's got a design like a bright pink dragon did it with Skarmory, which is a great contrast to EKD's dark, oriental-ish, serpentine theme.

I wonder how Holy Knight Dragon came about? Another ritual, made with the soul of a martyr? The world may never know.

Both of these dragons belong to Yugimons. Enough said. I may digitally color this; two dragons with the sunset in the background would be pretty sweet. Critique away, in the meantime!

Hey, this is pretty cool! I like these two, despite the fact they're probably way too outclassed these days. The contrast between them adds to the artwork, and it certainly would do well with that background. The nostalgia this evokes in me is welcomed.
